Whirling Through Winchester: The 150th Anniversary of Third Winchester
On September 19, 1864, Confederate Gen. Jubal A. Earlys Army of the Valley and Union Gen. Philip H. Sheridans Army of the Shenandoah met at the Third Battle of Winchester, the largest battle ever fought in the Valley, and one of the pivotal clashes of the Civil War. 150 years later, on September 19-20, 2014, the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation will commemorate the battle with Whirling Through Winchester: The 150th Anniversary of Third Winchester, a series of special programs.
