MINDD Study #2-Multisite Intervention and Neuroimaging Delay Discounting
The purpose of the study is to look at positive thinking and decision making in adults at risk for Type 2 Diabetes. The study requires people over the age of 18 who have prediabetes, plus hypertension and/or hyperlipidemia. The study requires four visits to the Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute over the next month, approximately. Visits can be done in Blacksburg or Roanoke. Each visit will last about 1.5 to 2 hours.
You will: Receive biometric information such as HbA1c (blood sugar) and blood pressure Complete memory games, food surveys, and future thinking tasks Complete a two-phase food taste test Complete an fMRI scan (get a disc with images of your brain!)
Eligibility Criteria 18 years of age or older Prediabetes (higher than normal blood sugar, though not yet high enough for a Type 2 Diabetes diagnosis) Hypertension (high blood pressure) and/or hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol) MRI eligible
Risk Factors for Diabetes: Family history of diabetes (parent, sibling) Overweight Inactive lifestyle Prediabetes Age older than 45 years High blood pressure High cholesterol History of gestational diabetes Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) Diet high in sugar and fats
