There is Dog Poop everywhere around the grounds of The Woodstock Village Apartments in Woodstock VA.
What needs to be done:
1. Have fenced-in designated spots to let dogs relieve themselves and the owner MUST pick it up and put it in the trash.
2. Must Sign New Updated Pet Addendum. If this is the case, you can find the tenant for breaking their original lease agreement but can allow them to keep the animal, as long as they sign a pet addendum to the lease. This addendum will spell out all the terms and conditions under which they must operate and the consequences if they violate these new terms.
a. A first-time offense: May get off with a warning.
b. Second and third offense: May result in a fine.
c. A fourth offense: May result in the removal of the pet or an eviction. If there have been multiple complaints against the tenant or the pet, and the situation has not been fixed, you may have to take more decisive action, such as suggesting the tenant remove the pet from the property, or if they have broken the terms of their lease, evicting the tenant.
We live right next to The Woodstock VA Village Apartments and I have met and talked with a number of nice people and children that live there.
I go over and pick up litter since the wind blows it over our way. Our property line meets the apartment property in the back of our townhouse. There is someone that drinks beer in his car or while driving that throws his bottles on our community property often. I would like to catch him in the act and report him to management.
I love dogs but irresponsible pet owners walk their dogs where the children play. Since they do not pick up their deposits, dog defecation is everywhere on the grassy areas. It is very disturbing to know that this is the same area where I have seen children, including very young children, sitting and rolling around on the grass. Kids should be able to be kids and play outside. I'm sure there are very responsible pet owners who live here but those who aren't are creating a very real health hazard. I hope that the town ordinance to pick up after your pet will be enforced soon.
A leading source of E.coli and other bacterial infections, dog poop is a major health threat. It can even contaminate the water supplies and soil. Children, with their sloppy hygiene habits, are most vulnerable to such threats due to frequent exposure to outside areas like playgrounds which are frequented by dogs. To curb the issues arising from dog waste, Woodstock VA needs effective Dog Poop Signs and enforcement.
