Social Media Companies Face Legal Reckoning

GREAT News, the jurys verdict is a historic victory for every child and family who has paid the price for Facebook and Metas choice to put profits over kids safety. Meta executives knew their products harmed children, disregarded warnings from their own employees, and lied to the public about what they knew.

The jury joined families, educators, and child safety experts in saying enough is enough!!

The lawsuit, filed in 2023 by the state, alleged Meta created a breeding ground for child predators and misled users about safety protections on Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

Social media companies are currently facing a legal reckoning due to lawsuits alleging they harm children's mental health through addictive design choices and failure to protect users from harmful content. Recent trials, including a landmark case against Meta and Google, are testing the accountability of these platforms and could lead to significant changes in how they operate.

 In the US:

Facebook, along with its parent company Meta, is facing significant legal challenges, including a recent jury ruling that found it liable for failing to protect children from online dangers and contributing to mental health issues. This marks a turning point in legal actions against social media companies, with potential implications for future regulations and lawsuits.

A New Mexico jury has ordered Meta to pay $375 million after finding that the company misled users about the safety of its platforms and failed to protect children from predators. This ruling marks a significant legal victory regarding child safety and consumer protection laws.

Social Media Companies Finally Face Legal Reckoning Over Mental Health Harms to Children

The Trial Mark Zuckerberg Couldn't Prevent - The New York Times

The Trial Mark Zuckerberg Couldn't Prevent

Mark Zuckerberg appeared in a Los Angeles courtroom where he testified in an unprecedented social media trial by jury that questions whether Meta's platforms deliberately addict and harm children.

Estimates suggest that more than 100,000 children may experience sexual harassment daily on Facebook and Instagram, according to internal Meta documents. However, the true number of children affected could be much higher, as indicated by a Meta researcher who warned of potentially 500,000 cases of exploitation per day.

Two trials are currently underway in Los Angeles and New Mexico, with additional trials expected to follow. The courtroom showdowns are the culmination of years of scrutiny of the platforms over child safety, and whether deliberate design choices make them addictive and serve up content that leads to depression, eating disorders, or suicide.

Please research these matters and share the results
with others for the sake of the children of the world.
